But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. Acts 1:8 (NIV)
Our task a Goochland Baptist Church is to be witnesses in Goochland County, VA and to the end of the earth. We partner with a variety of faith groups, non-profits, individuals, and other organizations locally, nationally, and internationally and consider it a privilege that we can make a difference in our community and beyond. Adults, youth, and children at GBC have participated in a variety of service projects over the years. Below are just a of the ways you can help.
Medical facilities all over our country have reported shortages of medical supplies, and our local health clinics are no exception. As a result many facilities are now putting out a call for donations of homemade masks and gowns. These homemade masks are simple to make. While not nearly as effective as the N-95 masks for preventing someone from catching COVID -19, they are effective at keeping a sick person from spreading COVID -19. Giving a sick patient a homemade mask helps clinics save the medical grade masks for the health care providers. For this reason, we building a collection of homemade masks to hand out to patients at local rural health clinics. Instructions and a how-to video can be found below.
Before making the masks, the fabric needs to be washed in hot water and dried on high heat.
Be sure to wash your hands well before removing the fabric from the dryer.
Then iron the fabric before you start sewing to remove wrinkles.
After following the instructions to make the masks, wash, dry, and press the masks again.
Then place several of them in a sealed Ziploc bag together to keep them clean.
Do NOT make masks if you're sick!
GBC ministers to the hungry in our community through the Neighbors Food Pantry which is housed in St. Matthews United Methodist Church. We join other churches in the community to provide staple goods for the pantry. Current needs are: cereal, peanut butter, jam, pasta and pasta sauces, canned fruits and vegetables. When you shop for groceries, would you consider purchasing an extra item for the food pantry? Leave your donations in the designated box under the coat rack outside the Multipurpose Room of the New Building. They are taken to St. Matthews each Thursday.
BROWN BAG MINISTRY
We help provide weekend meals and snacks to Goochland Elementary School in need through our Brown Bag Ministry. We typically provide over-sized brown bags with two breakfasts, two dinners, pudding, applesauce, and several snacks. Over the past seven years, we have been averaging approximately 35 bags and deliver them every Friday during the school year.
If you would like to help with this ministry, you can make donations of individually wrapped store bought items such as oatmeal, pop tarts, granola bars, goldfish, pretzels, applesauce, pudding, snack size Chef Boy R Dee, and easy Mac 'n' Cheese. You can also make monetary donations to the program by writing a check to Goochland Baptist with Brown Bag Ministry written in the subject line.
