But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. Acts 1:8 (NIV)
Our task a Goochland Baptist Church is to be witnesses in Goochland County, VA and to the end of the earth. We partner with a variety of faith groups, non-profits, individuals, and other organizations locally, nationally, and internationally and consider it a privilege that we can make a difference in our community and beyond. Adults, youth, and children at GBC have participated in a variety of service projects over the years. Below are just a of the ways you can help.
OREGON HILL BAPTIST CENTER’S ANNUAL CHRISTMAS STORE
GBC is collecting new, unused toys and clothes for children from birth through age 12 through Sunday, December 1 for the Annual Christmas Store. Please place all unwrapped donations in the marked bins located at the back of the Multipurpose Room.
Suggestions: Clothing (jeans, sweaters, sweatpants, girls' stretch pants, leggings, socks, underwear, coats, hats, and gloves in regular and large sizes) Games; Toys; Books; Bicycles (helmets and locks). Please go easy on stuffed animals, Barbie dolls, Candy Land and Chutes and Ladders Board Games. Please leave price tags on items so that less expensive items can be distinguished from more expensive ones. *There is a shortage for ages 7 through 12.
GOOCHLAND CHRISTMAS MOTHER
There is a much greater need this year in our community. Robin Hillman is the Goochland Christmas Mother. Her committee is working hard to make sure that they meet the goal of the program (serve all that make application).
GBC is collecting the following items through Saturday, November 30th: Body Soap (bars), Toothbrushes, Toothpaste, Hand Soap, Shampoo/Conditioner, Deodorant, Razors, Baby Wipes, and Hair brushes/combs. Please place all donations in the marked bins located at the back of the Multipurpose Room. For more ways to help (adopt a individual/family, volunteer, donate) visit https://www.goochlandchristmasmother.org/.
GBC ministers to the hungry in our community through the Neighbors Food Pantry which is housed in St. Matthews United Methodist Church. We join other churches in the community to provide staple goods for the pantry. Current needs are: cereal, peanut butter, jam, pasta and pasta sauces, canned fruits and vegetables. When you shop for groceries, would you consider purchasing an extra item for the food pantry? Leave your donations in the designated box under the coat rack outside the Multipurpose Room of the New Building. They are taken to St. Matthews each Thursday.
BROWN BAG MINISTRY
We help provide weekend meals and snacks to Goochland Elementary School in need through our Brown Bag Ministry. We typically provide over-sized brown bags with two breakfasts, two dinners, pudding, applesauce, and several snacks. Over the past seven years, we have been averaging approximately 35 bags and deliver them every Friday during the school year.
If you would like to help with this ministry, you can make donations of individually wrapped store bought items such as oatmeal, pop tarts, granola bars, goldfish, pretzels, applesauce, pudding, snack size Chef Boy R Dee, and easy Mac 'n' Cheese. You can also make monetary donations to the program by writing a check to Goochland Baptist with Brown Bag Ministry written in the subject line.
MEALS ON WHEELS
As a service to some of the most vulnerable in our community, members of our church family deliver meals to homebound families on a regular basis. If you'd like to help deliver meals, contact our church office.
